WEIGHTMAN Typing & Design is a Virtual Assistant Secretarial Service specialising in Digital and Tape Transcription. The business was established in 2004, although I had been contracting transcription work on a part time basis since July 2003.
I had heard the term 'Virtual Assistant' used to describe office professionals who operate as private contractors using their own office and equipment so I began researching the industry on the Internet. Having had a long held desire to own and operate a Secretarial and Transcription business, I realised this was the ideal opportunity for my dream to become a reality. I joined 'A Clayton's Secretary', an internet based network of Virtual Assistants and office professionals and soon Weightman Typing & Design was in operation.
My experience has been gained over 25 years, mostly in New Zealand but also in Australia since our family moved to Melbourne in 1999. I graduated with a Diploma from the Manukau Technical Institute School of Commerce in 1973 and began my secretarial career as a Telex Operator/Typist with the New Zealand Refining Company at Marsden Point, New Zealand's only Oil Refinery. Over the next three years I moved through the ranks of the Typing Pool to Senior Typist and then, at the age of 21, to Typing Pool Supervisor, which included relieving for the General Manager's Secretary when she was on leave.
My experience since then has been with businesses ranging from large international companies through to consultancies and small or home based businesses. I have worked in a wide variety of industries and fields including:
